Nope! I designed the current course offerings to be suitable for beginners. Metalsmithithing 1 is the most technical course, but everything is covered from the ground up, so total newcomers are welcome!
The courses are self-paced, so you can progress at your own speed, and take as much or as little time as you need.
Nope! You get lifetime access, so you can revisit the lessons whenever you need!
When you purchase a course, you gain immediate access to login and view all course content via email. Since this cannot be undone, we don't accept returns.
You don't have to, but if you've never made jewelry before, Jewelry Foundations is a great place to start. You will learn the fundamentals of jewelry making, such as wire wrapping, using jump rings and attaching clasps. These skills will be helpful in Metalsmithing 1, but are not required. If you are ready to dive into metalsmithing head first, then go for it! You can always go back and take Jewelry Foundations later if you find you'd like those foundational skills.
Materials are not included in the course. Supply lists are provided for each course, with clickable links, so you can easily get all of the supplies you need.
Each course comes with a Tools + Materials List, with a variety of options, including various price points based on the quality you want to invest in. How much you spend is up to you, but here's a general overview to give you an idea of what to expect:
For Jewelry Foundations: If you invest in the tools and materials to complete every lesson in the course, you can expect to spend areound $100. You can also choose to invest in just the tools necessary to complete certain lessons. For example, if you invest in the tools just for wire wrapping, you can expect to spend around $40.
For The Sawing Mini Course: You can expect to spend around $55 on tools and materials.
For Metalsmithing 1: Stacking Rings: For this course, the range you could spend is very vast, and depends on what you're looking for. for the basics (everything you need to complete the course project), you can expect to spend around $200. There are endless metalsmithing tools and gadgets, so depending on how much you want to invest, you could easily spend up to $1500 on high quality tools and equipment. But that is absolutely not necessary for this course or for starting your metalsmithing journey!
In Metalsmithing 1, you will make a stacking ring. A stacking ring is a band made out of wire, that you can wear on it's own, stack with other rings, or perhaps use it as a base for future metalsmithing projects once you progress further!
In Jewelry Foundations, you will not work on a specific project. The course covers all of the skills you need to learn to start making jewelry on your own. You can choose your own beads and materials, and follow along to learn the techniques to create your own design.
In the Intro To Sawing Mini-Course, you will be learning the skill of sawing. I've created a practice guide that you can work with to practice sawing, so that could be seen as a project, but you won't be working on a specific piece of jewelry.
